Prof. Dr. Ali HAMICHE

Professor Ali Hamiche is a scientist with a 32 h-index and 5014 citations, working on genetics. After receiving his B.S. Degree in Biochemistry from University of Paris-Sud and his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from University of Paris 6, he worked in various laboratories in France and USA. He is now the CNRS Director of Research and the leader of a team that was rated A+ by AERES Committee in 2008 and 2012. His group was recognized as an outstanding research group by the National League Against Cancer and recently, he recently received the prestigious Dandrimont-Bénicourt Prize from the French Academia of Sciences for his contribution to the epigenetic field and oncogenesis.

Dr. Emin Kansu is an educator, internist, hematologist and oncologist with a 25 h-index. Graduate of Hacettepe University, he completed his studies on Internal Medicine, Hematology and Immunology in Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. Then, he returned to Hacettepe University where he served as the head of Institute of Oncology, Department of Basic Oncology, Department of Stem Cell Sciences and the Cancer Institute.
He’s been the Chair of International Society of Hematology and an Adjunct Professor in Thomas Jefferson University. Also, he is an honorary member of TÜBA- Turkish Academy of Science. Dr. Kansu’s research interests include hematopoiesis, bone marrow and stem cell biology, pathogenesis of malignant hematological diseases, immuno-oncology, blood and bone marrow transplantation, chronic graft-vs-host disease immunobiology and scientific ethics.

Dr. David Burstein graduated from Tel Aviv University with double major program in Bioinformatics in 2004. After receiving his MS and PhD from the same university he did his postdoctoral fellowship on metagenomic studies of CRISPR-Cas systems at University of California Berkeley between 2013-2018. His works have been published in high impact journals like Science and Nature. Now, in his lab Dr. David and his team aim to better understand key interaction mechanisms within microbial communities and to promote their application in biotechnology and medicine. Specifically, they are interested in discovering novel antibiotic resistance genes, CRISPR-Cas systems, and bacterial secretion systems.

Professor Stefan Dimitrov is a scientist with an h-index of 50 and 8493 citations. Graduated from Sofia University, Faculty of Science and Technology, studied Solid State Physics and received his Ph.D. from the Sofia University Institute of Molecular Biology; he became the head of the research at the IMB. After working at the laboratories of prestigious institutions across the globe such as ISREC, Laval University, NIH ; he was given the tenure position Director of Research at CNRS in France. He is presently Head of Lab at the Institute Albert Bonniot (Grenoble) and the group leader at Dimitrov Lab of Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center . Dr. Dimitrov has spent all his career working on chromatin epigenetics, during the last decade his scientific interests were focused on cancer epigenetics. He has published more than 130 papers in the top level scientific journals including Nature, Mol. Cell, J. Cell Biol. and Nature Struct. Mol. Biol.

Prof. Halil Kavakli was graduated from Middle East Technical University in 1992 from Biology Department. He earned both MS and PhD from Washington State University in 1996 and 2000, respectively. Then he moved to North Carolina University-Chapel Hill to conduct postdoctoral studies with Prof Aziz Sancar. In 2004 he joint Koc University as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Currently he is a professor and holding a joint appointment in both Molecular Biology and Genetics and Chemical and Biological Engineering. He was visiting scientist at University of Pennsylvania in between 2011 and 2012 in Pharmacology Department. His research interest is mainly on understanding biological clock at molecular level and drug discovery. He published more than 40 research articles and book chapters. Prof. Halil Kavakli is also recipient of the Turkish Academy of Science young investigator award (TÜBA-GEBİP) and Fevzi Akkaya young investigator award (FABED).

Ibrahim Gokce Yayla gratuated from Galatasaray Highschool in Istanbul. He received his Ph.D. degree from California University and worked as a Microelectronics Integrated Circuit Design Engineer in several companies including: PCSI, Rockwell Semiconductor, Conexant, Cypress and National Semiconductors. He performed microelectronics consulting services to Intel, AMCC, Trident, Fairchild Semiconductor, Opti Incorporated, Nanogen, Nanotronics, Audre Inc. and was involved in the design of over 20 products of Integrated Circuits. He is the co-founder and VP of Engineering at InnocommWireless, as well as the CEO of Devacell since 2012 and has been working as a VP of IC Design at Axalume Inc., holding 6 patents and having 9 scientific articles in the field of cancer studies.

Anıl Biricik was born on 1974. He got his BSc. degree in Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical School, Biomedical Sciences and MSc. degree in Marmara University Medical School, Departments of Medical Biology and Genetics (with scholarship from Scientific Organization of Turkey). He was involved in biochemistry, immunology and microbiology studies at Cerrahpasa University Medical School. He made Gene expression studies in Marmara University Medical School, Departments of Medical Biology and Genetics. He also worked on Bacterial culture studies in Golcuk Sea Force Hospital, Microbiology Laboratory. He made Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis studies for monogenic diseases and aneuploidies and molecular genetic studies for severe male infertility in Istanbul Memorial Hospital, Reproductive Genetics Unit. Currently he works as a Molecular Biologist, responsible for PGD Unit at GENOMA Molecular Genetics Laboratory in Italy.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Okay CAGLAYAN

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Okay CAGLAYAN

Dr Ahmet Okay Çağlayan is currently an Associate Professor of Medical Genetics in Turkey and clinical geneticist with specific interest in neurodevelopmental disorders. He has extensive experience in next-generation and high-throughput molecular genetics, with special focus on the use of homozygosity mapping and whole-exome sequencing in recessive forms of structural and functional abnormalities of the brain. He has successfully detected rare and somatic genetic variant identification in diverse range of diseases using high-throughput and next-generation genomics approaches at Yale. In the last seven years, he has published papers in Cell, Science, Nature, Nature Genetics, Am J Hum Genet, Brain and Neuron including one of the first successful applications of exome sequencing in the identification of genetic basis of recessive forms of structural abnormalities of the brain. He has served as a member of editorial boards, a reviewer in top-tier journals and conferences, and was invited to serve as a program committee member for international workshops and conferences as well. He established Medical Genetics Department and giving lectures to under and post graduate students, assisting in seminar groups or laboratories, and grading.
